This is *kalmanens Friesian-Andalusian cross stallion Ambrosius. She wanted him depicted in a forest, and god knows I can't draw forests to save my life! But I had this vision in mind of a secret place deep, deep inside a forest, near an old tree and a pond with lilies. So I did my best to make that place come to life and well, here it is! The tree is based on a tutorial by =nathie.
Done in Photoshop with my little Bamboo tablet, during 3 days. Original size is A3 but reduced to 20%. A couple of references for the horse and the pose, but I still didn't get him to look very Andalusian-like!
Hope you like it

Thank you so much, glad you like it I think I went a bit overboard with all the greeny-ness of it, but I wanted it to be a nice, earthy picture, and it went so well with the sort of sandy colours of Ambros coat. But I doubt I'll be drawing anything this complex (as in texture-wise) again!
It's a really, really beautiful picture - I love the refined greens of the woods around him, they really compliment the horse's sandy colour. And the water-lilies are so good! They're like Monet, only more defined. XD Izzy
Thank you so much, glad you like it I tried my best to try and stick to one colour scheme in this (mainly being green-brown-yellow) but I'm terrible at keeping to limited palettes! And I love lilies, so this was my excuse to draw them
I was looking through my deviations and noticed that there were a few very old ones of yours I haven't looked at yet! Sorry about that!
This is gorgeous. I love the lilypads in the background and the water, too. Every last bit of this is incredible! The expression is awesome, too. I love the way your horses always look so pretty and realistic! I certainly love the grass in the front, and the anatomy of the stallion looks really good. I love the pattern of him- buckskin paint. And the flowers are really pretty! Also, great job on the tree, too. ^^
Haha no problem, and thanks I think this was the piece that made me start focusing more on the surroundings and the backgrounds rather than just on the character. It was great fun to try and think of little details, but very tiring! And I love all sorts of buckskins too, I it's such an adorable and rich colour.
oh my god ! I love, love and once ahain love this picture you're amazing, this tree is awesome ! and water - magnificent I'm not going to tell you about the horse, coz you know you're drawing them marvellously
Wowwww the greens you used in the background look SO good with that gold coat! The texturing on that tree is fab, and the water looks so real Amazing work yet again, Cer. The grass in the foreground is incredibly detailed I love the little bits of red and yellow colors you threw into that green mosh in the back
The nose and mouth area on the horse look akward, but you did his colorings and legs so well. The forest looks perfectly fine by me, I mean, at least you actually can do backgrounds. -__- *giggle* she must have loved it.
Thanks I hate drawing the muzzle area on horses, so I can believe if it looks a bit off. I really need to practise them. I've got a few photos on my computer I could draw from, but I never have time like I said before
Every one of your pictures is just so magical, I can never have enough time to admire all the little details like the fungi on the tree or the perfect reflections and sparkles in the water...Those leaves in the background are great too, I really need to learn how to do that. This is such a beautiful scene.
I love everything about this work except for the watermark...but I understandwhy it is here. I'd love tohave some headache with the tree, too. will you please give me a link to this tutorial? I looked through his gallery but didn't find it(((
